In Ukraine, there is a simultaneous lack of workers and difficulty in finding jobs in certain specialties. The reason is that job vacancies and candidates' experience often do not match: companies need workers, while many candidates are looking for office positions. President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Companies for International Employment Vasyl Voskoboynyk spoke about the shortage of workers in enterprises and the imbalance in the labor market in an interview with the channel «Superposition».
Why there is a lack of workers in Ukraine, yet it is difficult to find a job
According to Voskoboynyk, the highest demand is for people in physical professions: builders, drivers, locksmiths, and plumbers. Meanwhile, some job seekers are focused on vacancies for accountants, economists, lawyers, and other office specialists.
«Where workers are needed, they are lacking. Where there is an excess, there are not enough employers,» the expert explained.
Therefore, the shortage of personnel does not mean that every candidate will quickly find a suitable job. In popular fields among job seekers, competition can be high, while employers in labor sectors compete for workers. The difference between situational scenarios in various professions is illustrated by competition for vacancies.
How the war exacerbates the imbalance in the labor market
The problem is worsened by the uneven distribution of workers between regions. People are leaving frontline cities and moving to central and western regions, but they do not always find jobs in their specialty.
Voskoboynyk believes that this situation will persist as long as hostilities and population displacement continue. In his opinion, military personnel will mostly return to their former professional positions rather than create a new reserve of workers for the market after returning to peaceful life.
Despite this, interest in labor vacancies is gradually increasing. In particular, analytics record more responses to labor vacancies, although the personnel deficit in these professions still remains.
