The European Union has launched an investigation against Google
The European Union has started an antitrust investigation against Google for the alleged use of online media content and YouTube to train its AI models. EU Commissioner for Competition Teresa Ribeiro noted that artificial intelligence brings many innovations but should not violate the fundamental values of society.
The investigation focuses on the possible pressure from Google on publishers and content creators, as well as the creation of uneven conditions for developers of competing AI models. Google representatives have not yet commented on this matter.
Suspension of the fine decision by the European Commission
'On July 30, Google announced its decision to sign the EU Code of Practice, which is intended to help businesses comply with new rules regarding artificial intelligence.' - said Kent Walker, President of Google International Affairs.
It should be noted that on December 3, the European Commission canceled its decision on the antitrust fine against the American tech giant Google. This happened after pressure from Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, who opposed the decision of Competition Commissioner Teresa Ribeiro in connection with trade threats from US President Donald Trump.
As a result of the antitrust investigation, the European Union has begun an inquiry into Google's activities regarding the use of online content and AI models, and the imposition of a fine for the company's monopolistic position was also suspended.
