The Second Global Summit on Indigenous Peacemaking will take place in New York on April 25-26, 2026, with the participation of representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, reported the head of the latter, Eskender Bariiev, to Ukrinform.
Bariiev noted that it is important for indigenous peoples to participate in resolving conflicts regarding their territories and interests. The aim of the summit is to promote the UN General Assembly resolution on the decade of Indigenous Peacemaking and to strengthen the network of peacemakers, negotiators, and mediators.
Participants of the second Global Summit on Indigenous Peacemaking will discuss issues of involving indigenous peoples in peacebuilding to resolve conflicts and environmental crises worldwide. This is another step in protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and their cultural heritage.
Recently, the European Court of Human Rights began considering cases regarding the ban on the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, which was imposed by Russia in 2016. Requests to review this case have been submitted by various representatives of the Crimean Tatars.
