Big man Rostislav Novitsky joined the Ukrainian national team: how it will affect the team’s game

Big man Rostislav Novitsky will join the Ukrainian national basketball team. This was reported by 'Hlavcom' citing the NGBU.


On Wednesday, August 13, the center will arrive at the national team's location, which continues preparations for the upcoming matches of the pre-qualification for the 2027 World Cup. The player resolved his paperwork issues in the USA, after which he immediately headed to the national team.


Rostislav Novitsky’s debut for the Ukrainian national team


Novitsky made his debut for the Ukrainian national team in the EuroBasket 2025 qualifying matches. In two qualifying matches, Rostislav averaged 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 15.8 minutes (RE 12.5).

At the same time, Danil Sipalo has left the national team camp. Due to injury, the young big man will unfortunately not be able to assist the team in the upcoming matches and will return to his club.


State of Group D pre-qualification


After two pre-qualification matches, the Ukrainian team holds the first place in Group D. Having narrowly lost to Switzerland (64:66) and defeated Slovakia (80:71), our team surpasses its opponents, who also have one victory, based on additional criteria.


On August 16, in a nominally home match in Riga, the Ukrainian team will play against Switzerland (17:00), and on August 20 in Bratislava at 20:00 they will face the Slovak team.


As reported, Ukraine confidently defeated Slovakia and improved its standings in the pre-qualification group for the 2027 World Cup.

It has been reported that big man Rostislav Novitsky is joining the Ukrainian national basketball team, as well as his debut for the team in the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers and the state of Group D in the pre-qualification for the 2027 World Cup. The Ukrainian team is currently in first place in the group after defeating Slovakia and losing to Switzerland. The next matches will be against Switzerland and Slovakia.
