Comments from the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babis, commented on the criticism from Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Zvarich towards the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura. Babis emphasized that Zvarich violated diplomatic customs, stating:
‘He, so to speak, violated some diplomatic customs. He has nothing to teach us here. He is a diplomat. It's fine if the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine says that, he is a politician.’
Czech government action plan
In connection with the situation, the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, plans to discuss the incident with the government. Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Matzinka also intends to meet with the Ukrainian diplomat, indicating the seriousness of the situation. The meeting of the highest constitutional officials will take place on January 26.
Moreover, it is worth noting that 41.2 thousand people signed a letter apologizing for Okamura's statement. This letter was created by teacher Antonin Kolarz from the Pilsen region, indicating a broad public resonance and support for the Ukrainian position.
This situation highlights the tension in relations between the Czech Republic and Ukraine, particularly in the context of diplomatic etiquette. The position of the Czech government and the public may influence the further development of bilateral relations. The planned meeting between the president and the foreign minister with the Ukrainian ambassador could be an important step towards reducing tensions and restoring constructive dialogue.
