The First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine Lyudmyla Shemelinets emphasized the importance of prevention, protecting victims, and the inevitability of punishment for abusers in combating violence. She stated this during the presentation of the National Report summarizing the monitoring of specialized support services for individuals affected by domestic violence and/or gender-based violence.
The event was attended by representatives of government authorities, local self-government, law enforcement agencies, international partners, and non-governmental organizations.
Lyudmyla Shemelinets added that during the war, violence becomes more prevalent, so it is crucial to prevent it rather than just react to cases. It is important to talk about the problem, change perceptions, identify risks at the initial stages, and support those who have been affected.
According to Shemelinets, the National Report will be an important tool in strengthening state measures and improving the system of combating violence in Ukraine.
