After graduating from Kyiv School No. 69, he earned a law degree from the National Aviation University in Kyiv and completed military training, receiving the rank of junior lieutenant. In total, Andrii held three higher education degrees.

Before the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine in 2014, he lived in Irpin, was married, and had a daughter. In May 2019, he arrived in Mariupol to serve in a border guard unit. During the city's defense, he sustained shrapnel wounds on March 26, 2022, but continued his duties. On April 16, 2022, his border guard team discovered a shelter with civilians at the Azovstal plant, where their efforts saved the lives of over 80 non-combatants.

Personal Life and Acts of Bravery

Andrii Subotin married military journalist Valeriia Nava Karpylenko on May 5, 2022. Despite the dire circumstances, their love prevailed during the most challenging times. On May 6, 2022, a group of defenders, including Andrii, moved to reinforce the 'Temnyi' observation post. He began his combat shift at midnight on May 7, but tragically died later that day.

Valeriia Nava was taken captive after leaving Azovstal on May 17, 2022, and was returned to Ukraine 11 months later in a prisoner exchange. Andrii Subotin was posthumously awarded the Order for Courage, Third Class, and the Gold Star Order. He is survived by his daughter, parents, and wife.
