Border Guard Fined for Incident with Lawyer Pukanich
In the Vynohradiv District Court of the Transcarpathian region, the border guard was found guilty of violating border service regulations due to improper actions during the incident with the mobilized lawyer Eduard Pukanich, who broke through the border. The court imposed a fine of 17 thousand hryvnias on the border guard, Inspector Volodymyr H.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on October 30, 2025, when Volodymyr H. was on duty as a 'Barrier Guard' at the 'Velyka Palad' checkpoint. Eduard Pukanich, 38, drove a Toyota Avensis through two closed barriers and injured the border guard. As a result of this incident, the driver managed to cross the border of Ukraine with Hungary and fled.
It is worth noting that Eduard Pukanich was mobilized on June 23, 2025. The case protocol also mentions other individuals, including Natalia B. and Volodymyr H., but the court did not find grounds for violating Natalia B.'s actions. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that Ferenc Serni was found not guilty of illegally transporting a man across the border in March 2024.
Thus, the court's decision highlights the responsibility of border guards to adhere to service regulations and ensure safety at the border.
This incident exposes problems in the control system at the Ukrainian border, which may have serious security implications for the country. The fine for the border guard, while a punishment, also indicates the need to improve procedures and staff training to prevent similar cases in the future. Thus, attention to compliance with service regulations becomes critically important in the context of ensuring national borders and law and order.
