Mandatory evacuation of children announced in 44 frontline villages: what is known

The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine has made the decision to forcibly evacuate children and their parents from 44 frontline areas of Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions due to safety threats. This step aims to protect children and provide families with the opportunity to be safe.

The following are subject to evacuation:

  • 4 populated areas in Zaporizhia region, where 651 children reside;
  • 40 populated areas in Dnipropetrovsk region, where 2463 children are present.

Since June 1, 2023, 150 thousand people have already been evacuated from frontline territories, including 18 thousand children and over 5 thousand persons with limited mobility. There are 17 transit centers operating in Ukraine to provide assistance.

Situation in the region

Mandatory evacuation has been announced from some populated areas of the Synelnykove district in Dnipropetrovsk region. Oleksii Kuleba, a representative of the Ministry, noted:

'Our main task is to protect children and give families the opportunity to be safe'. Oleksii Kuleba, representative of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine

He also emphasized that since June 1, 150 thousand people have already been evacuated from frontline territories to safer regions.

A round-the-clock helpline 15-48 is available for consultation on evacuation issues. The Defense Council of Chernihiv region has also decided on mandatory evacuation from 14 border villages, indicating the seriousness of the situation in the region.

This step indicates an escalation of the situation at the front and the need for urgent measures to ensure the safety of the population. Evacuating children is a priority for the state, as these population categories are the most vulnerable in the context of military conflicts. Such decisions may also indicate possible threats in other regions, which requires close attention from government bodies and international organizations.
