US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations between Washington and Tehran could lead to a peace agreement in the coming days. According to him, the parties are close to a final decision.
This is reported by European Truth citing Axios.
US-Iran negotiations: when is the agreement expected?
Trump announced that American and Iranian negotiators could meet as early as this weekend. He expressed confidence in a swift conclusion to the process.
«The Iranians want to meet. They want to make a deal. I think the meeting will likely happen over the weekend. I think we will make a deal in the next day or two,» said Donald Trump in an interview.
At the same time, sources familiar with the negotiations pointed out that the parties have already made significant progress and have approached an agreement on a peace plan of three pages. Despite this, some key issues remain unresolved.
The US-Iran peace plan: what is known about the terms
According to the US president, the potential agreement must ensure the security of Israel. He emphasized that the country, in his opinion, «will emerge from the war with great success.»
Among the key facts influencing the negotiations are:
- Iran announced the opening of the Strait of Hormuz for commercial vessels during the ceasefire
- The US does not plan to lift the blockade of Iranian ports until the agreement is fully implemented
- The parties are close to a compromise, but differences remain.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that within the framework of the agreements on the ceasefire in Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz would be fully opened for navigation.
Recall that Donald Trump also stated that restrictions on Iranian ports will remain in effect until all terms of the potential agreement are fully met. This indicates the tough position of Washington even at the final stage of negotiations.
