The petition for awarding the title 'Hero of Ukraine' (posthumously) to young footballer Stepan Chubenko, who was tortured by 'DNR' militants, has gathered the necessary number of votes. This was reported by 'Glavkom'.
The petition was published on April 11 by Serhiy Horbatenko on the website of the President of Ukraine.
As noted in the text of the petition, the title of Hero of Ukraine is awarded to citizens of Ukraine for outstanding heroic deeds or outstanding labor achievements. The 16-year-old Stepan Chubenko distinguished himself with such a heroic deed.
According to the document, Stepan actively participated in the Kramatorsk Euromaidan. He organized a march to support the Euromaidan in February 2014, which was dangerous in a region engulfed by pro-Russian protests. Subsequently, Stepan regularly took part in pro-Ukrainian rallies.
After the seizure of Kramatorsk by militants, Stepan, along with his friends, engaged in underground resistance and was shot for refusing to join the militants.
