Serhiy Prytula's Statement on Timur Khromayev

Serhiy Prytula has responded to online criticism concerning a photograph of Timur Khromayev with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, taken during a meeting in the United Arab Emirates. Prytula's remarks ignited a heated debate on social media, where users questioned the nature of Khromayev's service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This controversy highlights the intense public scrutiny faced by officials and public figures in Ukraine regarding their military contributions.

Timur Khromayev enlisted in the AFU in 2022. In 2024, he served as commander of the 112th Brigade of the Kyiv Territorial Defense. That same year, Commander-in-Chief of the AFU Oleksandr Syrskyi awarded him the Silver Cross badge. Prior to his military service, Khromayev was head of Ukraine's National Securities and Stock Market Commission but was dismissed from that post by President Zelenskyy in February 2021.

Online Reaction

The online commentary sparked vigorous debate. Vadym Buryakovskiy, for instance, voiced his opinion by labeling Khromayev a 'major' (a privileged person). To this, Serhiy Prytula responded:

“And suddenly, a whole bunch of people realized that Timur Khromayev is not a fake soldier. Well, congratulations on your epiphany, bunnies. Too bad you don't listen in time. Keep watching your Vadiks, they won't let you down.” - Serhiy Prytula

Other users also directed comments at Buryakovskiy, with some noting he failed to provide a clear stance on Khromayev's service.

Commenting on the situation, Olya Polyakova publicly apologized for her 63-year-old husband, Vadym Buryakovskiy. Social media users continue to actively discuss the affair, raising questions about perceptions of Khromayev's service and his role in the AFU. Many note the ongoing debate and express doubts about whether his service record has been properly verified.

The meeting of Ukrainians in the UAE was also addressed by President Zelenskyy, who stated that Ukrainians have been working there for several weeks to help save lives and that they discussed the initial results of this work. Thus, the situation surrounding Timur Khromayev and his military duties remains a focal point of public attention in Ukraine.

The discussion around Timur Khromayev underscores the significant public interest in military service within the AFU, especially concerning prominent individuals. It is important to note that such debates can shape public opinion regarding military personnel and their obligations, as well as attitudes toward national processes. While Khromayev has received official recognition for his service, questions of trust and verification of information remain pertinent in the public discourse.
