Major Ukrainian Banks Slash Cash Withdrawal Limits: PrivatBank, Oschadbank, and Monobank

Великі українські банки зменшили максимальні ліміти на зняття готівки: PrivatBank, Oschadbank та Monobank вжили заходів для контролю фінансових ризиків.

New Cash Withdrawal Caps Hit Ukrainian Banking Customers

Starting April 2026, three of Ukraine's largest financial institutions—PrivatBank, Oschadbank, and Monobank—have introduced tighter restrictions on cash withdrawals. These measures are part of a broader push to strengthen financial monitoring and crack down on shadow economy transactions. The new rules affect daily withdrawal limits at both ATMs and partner bank tellers. For context, these banks serve millions of Ukrainians, making the changes highly impactful for everyday banking.

  • At PrivatBank, most clients now face a daily ATM withdrawal cap of 20,000 hryvnias.
  • Oschadbank has kept its 25,000 hryvnia daily limit for salary and pension cards. However, holders of Oschadbank credit cards saw their limit reduced to 15,000 hryvnia per day.
  • Monobank also enforces a 20,000 hryvnia daily ATM limit, but clients can withdraw up to 50,000 hryvnia through partner bank tellers.
  • For Monobank customers classified as high-risk, the daily limit ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 hryvnia.

These adjustments follow a memorandum on financial monitoring signed by major banks in late 2024. The new restrictions aim to boost transaction transparency and reduce risks tied to the shadow economy.

The introduction of these cash withdrawal limits is part of Ukrainian banks' broader efforts to combat financial crimes and improve oversight of money flows. This signals regulators' growing focus on shadow economy issues and the need for financial institutions to adapt to evolving market conditions and legal requirements. In times of economic uncertainty, such steps may bring both benefits and drawbacks for bank clients.
