Chinese Car Sales in Ukraine Surge 71%, Led by BYD's Leopard 3

Обсяги продаж китайських автомобілів в Україні зросли на 71%, найбільший вклад внесла модель Leopard 3 від BYD.

Chinese Automakers See Dramatic Sales Increase in Ukraine

Ukraine's market for Chinese-made passenger vehicles expanded dramatically in January 2026, with sales rising 71% compared to the same month the previous year. Nearly 1,400 units were sold, with new car sales reaching 1,216 units—an 80% increase from January 2025. The used car segment also grew, with 181 units sold, marking a 25% year-on-year rise. This surge highlights a significant shift in consumer preference within a challenging economic landscape.

Top Models and Electric Vehicle Market Share

The BYD Leopard 3 emerged as the top-selling new model with 169 units sold. It was followed by the BYD Sea Lion 06 (110 units) and the Volkswagen ID.Unyx in third place (96 units). For context, sales of the Zeekr 001 reached 77 units, while the BYD Song Plus sold 73. Among used vehicles, the leaders were:

  • Zeekr 001 – 16 units
  • BYD Song L – 16 units
  • Buick Envision – 13 units

Electric vehicles continued to dominate this import segment, accounting for 78% of all Chinese-made cars sold in January 2026, though this represented a slight dip from the 82% share recorded in January 2025. The data underscores a strong and sustained Ukrainian consumer interest in Chinese brands, particularly their electric offerings.

Analysts point to several factors behind this growth, including more competitive import pricing, perceived improvements in vehicle quality, and aggressive marketing by manufacturers. The persistently high share of electric vehicles further signals a growing consumer trend toward more environmentally friendly transportation in Ukraine. Given current market dynamics, interest in Chinese automobiles, especially EVs, is expected to remain strong in the coming months.
