Ukraine's New Car Market Surges 19.5% in January 2025, with Toyota Leading and BYD Gaining Rapidly

Стимул для українських автолюбителів: продажі нових автомобілів зросли значно, а Toyota утримує лідерство на ринку.

January 2025 New Car Sales in Ukraine

January 2025 saw the sale of over 5,100 new passenger cars in Ukraine, marking the best January performance in the last three years. Demand for new vehicles grew by 19.5% compared to the same period in 2024. Toyota emerged as the most popular brand among Ukrainians, with sales of 845 cars, a 25% increase from the previous year.

Top Brands and Models

Securing second place for January 2025 was the Chinese brand BYD, which sold 548 vehicles—a massive 117% surge compared to January 2024. Renault took third position, selling 439 cars, a 31% year-on-year increase. The top five most popular brands also included:

  • Skoda (368 cars, +23%)
  • Volkswagen (359 cars, +99%)

The Renault Duster compact crossover was the month's best-selling individual model. Meanwhile, BMW sales fell by 42% (190 cars), and Suzuki sales dipped by 1% (175 cars). Other brands rounding out the top ten were:

  • Hyundai (289 cars, +56%)
  • Mazda (185 cars, +57%)
  • Nissan (173 cars, +9%)

This data points to a gradual recovery of Ukraine's new car market. The overall growth in sales may signal an improving economic climate and a rebound in consumer confidence following a challenging period. Notably, the success of BYD highlights the increasing appeal of Chinese automakers in Ukraine, likely due to competitive pricing and a wider model range.

The sharp rise in sales for brands like BYD and Volkswagen indicates shifting consumer preferences and heightened competition from new market entrants. However, the decline for some established European brands, such as BMW, suggests these traditional players are facing significant competitive pressure.
