Anti-Drone Shield for Cities Stalls: Funding Available, Protection Missing

Система захисту від дронів для міст зупинилася: є кошти, але захисту немає

Anti-Drone Defense Systems Face Implementation Hurdles

Military instructor Anton Chorny of the 'Shkval' battalion has revealed a failure to execute a presidential directive to create drone defense systems for frontline cities. Speaking on political analyst Yuriy Romanenko's broadcast, Chorny stated that a project developed by an expert known as 'Madjar' and his company was never implemented due to bureaucratic obstacles, despite official funding being allocated for the protective systems. This comes amid a prolonged conflict where drone attacks on civilian areas have become a grim daily reality.

Chorny noted that the president announced measures to strengthen drone protection in frontline regions back in November 2025. However, he said the question of what was accomplished from November to March has an obvious answer: practically nothing was done. The situation demanded urgent decisions, but none were forthcoming, leaving communities exposed.

Consequences of Inaction

The military instructor explained that 'Madjar' and his company prepared a detailed project for protective domes, clearly specifying what was needed and in what quantities. Yet, after approval, the project was handed off for implementation to someone other than 'Madjar'. According to Chorny, this resulted in some parties becoming frustrated while others simply did nothing. He claims this inaction has meant that 'the thoroughfare for enemy drones in the Chernihiv region has not disappeared,' and the terror of drone strikes in Nikopol continues 'twenty-four seven.'

'They continue daily and take the lives of innocent people,' emphasized instructor Anton Chorny.

Chorny also stressed that, to his knowledge, finances for large-scale defense systems were officially allocated, yet serious strikes on cities have not ceased over the past year. The situation in Nikopol, where the city center is now empty, is particularly alarming. 'Now I come across videos, and local residents say that there is not a single car in the center of Nikopol,' Chorny highlighted, acknowledging the city has become a void where many people once lived.

Chorny's remarks underscore the critical importance of executing strategic decisions promptly, especially under the threat from unmanned aerial vehicles. The failure to carry out the presidential order may point to systemic issues in the organization and management of resources, which in turn negatively impacts civilian safety. Further steps in this direction could prove decisive for protecting frontline cities and preventing losses among the civilian population.
