Meteorologist Natalka Didenko warns of a major shift in weather conditions across Ukraine on February 16th. A powerful cyclone is expected to bring blizzards, strong winds, icy conditions, and dramatic temperature contrasts of up to 20 degrees Celsius between different parts of the country.
Overnight temperatures will vary widely: western regions will see -7 to -13°C, Zhytomyr region will drop to -12°C, and Kyiv region will be around -8°C. In stark contrast, the Sumy region will be at +1°C. Vinnytsia will also be -12°C, while Dnipro will be +1°C. The east will range from +1 to +4°C, the south from -2 to +4°C, and Crimea will see a high of +8°C.
Monday's Forecast
During the day on Monday, the west and north will see -5 to -10°C, the center -2 to +4°C, the east +3 to +8°C, the south +2 to +5°C, and Crimea up to +10°C. Overnight, heavy precipitation in the form of wet snow and blizzards is possible across much of Ukraine, with rain and wet snow expected in the southern, eastern, and central regions. While precipitation will ease during the day, strong north-westerly winds with storm-force gusts will persist.
Icy roads are forecast for the western and northern oblasts, as well as Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions. In Kyiv, the night of February 16th will bring heavy precipitation, blizzards, and stormy winds. During the day, significant precipitation is not expected, but temperatures will be -6 to -9°C, and roads will remain slippery.
'Tomorrow during the day on Monday, the west and north will be -5 to -10°C, the center -2 to +4°C, the east +3 to +8°C, the south +2 to +5°C, and in Crimea up to +10°C,' noted Natalka Didenko.
Given this forecast, residents should prepare for severe weather that could significantly disrupt travel and daily life. This type of winter storm is not uncommon for the region during February, but its intensity warrants caution. Icy roads and strong winds may create hazardous conditions, particularly in western and northern areas. Meteorologists also warn of further temperature fluctuations, which could bring additional precipitation and adverse weather, underscoring the need to monitor forecasts closely in the coming days.
