Weather Forecast for Ukraine, February 7-11
A relatively mild weekend across Ukraine will be abruptly replaced by a significant cold snap at the start of the new week, according to the latest forecast. Meteorologist Natalka Didenko notes that on the weekend of February 7-8, overnight lows will range from -3 to -8 degrees Celsius, with western regions seeing 0 to -4 degrees, and southern areas hovering around zero.
Daytime temperatures over the weekend will be 0 to -4 degrees, around zero in the west, and significantly higher in the south and Crimea—reaching up to +5 and +10 degrees respectively. In Kyiv, conditions will include periodic snow, sleet, and fog. The capital will see overnight lows of -5 to -7 degrees, with Saturday daytime highs of -2 to -4 degrees. By Sunday evening, temperatures in Kyiv may drop to -9 degrees, with fog reducing visibility to 300-500 meters.
Significant Shift in Conditions
The weather shift will begin on the evening of February 8, when temperatures in the north of the country could fall to -6...-9 degrees. As Natalka Didenko states,
“Ukraine will not experience severe frosts over the weekend.”However, a new wave of cold air will move across Ukraine from February 9 through 11, with a warming trend expected only by February 12.
This forecast highlights a stark contrast between the relatively mild winter weather this weekend and the sharp cold arriving early next week. Such rapid temperature drops are common in Eastern European winters and can strain infrastructure. Meteorologists advise caution during the transition, particularly due to fog and reduced visibility on roads, which may impact travel and increase energy demand for heating.
