After the fare increase to 30 UAH in Kyiv, the use of public transport has decreased. In the second half of July, passenger traffic on surface transport fell by more than 10%, and the sale of monthly passes decreased by 54% in a month. The new fares for transport in Kyiv are effective from July 15. This is reported by Znay.UA.
Passenger traffic in Kyiv fell by more than 10%
According to the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration, in the second half of July, more than 10% fewer passengers used buses, trolleybuses, and trams than in the first two weeks of the month.
City authorities note that the indicator could have been influenced not only by the new fares but also by air raid alerts and repair works. At the same time, the total duration of alerts in the second half of July was even shorter: about 21.5 hours compared to 28 hours in the first half.
The demand for monthly passes changed even more significantly. From June 13 to July 14, Kyiv residents purchased 37,547 such subscriptions. In the first month after the fare increase, from July 15 to August 14, only 17,254 were sold.
Thus, the sale of passes decreased by approximately 54% or more than twice. At the same time, regular passengers can still pay 23–25 UAH for one trip thanks to packages and subscriptions.
How much does a trip cost in Kyiv after September 15
The base cost of one trip is 30 UAH. In packages, the price gradually decreases: 10–19 trips cost 28.90 UAH each, 20–29 — 27.80 UAH, 30–39 — 26.60 UAH, 40–49 — 25.50 UAH, and a package of 50 trips allows payment of 25 UAH each.
According to the source, Kyivpastrans transports about 823.5 thousand passengers per day on average, of which approximately 473.1 thousand belong to privileged categories. Therefore, the change in behavior after the fare increase mainly concerns passengers who pay for trips independently.
At the same time, the indicators for July and August do not yet reflect the full effect of the new fare. Until September 14 inclusive, passengers could use previously purchased trips at the old price.
