Non-Residential Property in Podil District Returned to City
The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has successfully reclaimed a non-residential property in the historic Podil district for the city community. The property, located at 39 Nyzhniy Val Street, spans over 114 square meters and is valued at more than 6.4 million hryvnias. It had been illegally transferred out of municipal ownership in 2010 based on forged documents. This case is part of ongoing efforts to audit past property transactions in Ukraine's capital, which have often been scrutinized for corruption.
The original 2010 court decision that authorized the transfer was later overturned after it was found to be based on false information and document falsification. Despite this annulment, ownership of the premises had remained registered to a private legal entity. To rectify this, the Podil District Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit with the Kyiv City Commercial Court in December 2025.
Court Ruling
The Kyiv City Commercial Court ruled fully in favor of the prosecutor's lawsuit. The court obligated the defendant to return the property to the ownership of the territorial community of Kyiv. This information was confirmed by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

The return of the property could set a legal precedent for investigating similar cases, potentially preventing such fraudulent transactions in the future. Given the increased public focus on transparency in the use of communal resources, such court decisions help strengthen citizens' trust in state institutions.
This recent ruling not only marks a significant victory for the Kyiv community but also underscores the ongoing efforts by local authorities to reclaim assets that were wrongfully taken. In a similar vein, the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office is also pursuing the return of another historic building to ensure that municipal properties are safeguarded against illegal appropriation. Such actions reflect a broader commitment to transparency and accountability in property management within the city.
