Farewell to Liubomyra Kepler

A farewell ceremony for Liubomyra Kepler (Khoptiy), a participant in the Revolution of Dignity who passed away on April 24, will take place in Kyiv on April 28. Liubomyra was a doctor and volunteer who actively provided assistance during the Maidan protests. She was injured by Berkut officers on November 30, 2013, when her right arm was broken. After the Revolution, Kepler continued her volunteer work and sought justice for those responsible for the violence, though most cases were closed due to the statute of limitations.

In November 2013, Liubomyra was living in Germany with her husband, but on the 27th she flew to Kyiv carrying medical supplies. With her medical background, she volunteered at a medical tent on Maidan. After the injury on November 30, with her arm in a cast, she joined a human chain on the night of February 18–19, 2014, passing paving stones. After the Revolution ended, Liubomyra wove camouflage nets, knitted, and helped the wounded.

Farewell Schedule

The farewell for Liubomyra Kepler will follow this schedule:

  • At 11:00 AM, the funeral cortege will stop at her home on 39a Almatynska Street.
  • At 12:30 PM, a farewell will be held on Maidan, near the Independence Monument.
  • At 3:30 PM, a farewell at the main hall of Baikove Cemetery (16 Baikova Street).
  • Friends and family will return to her home courtyard at 5:00 PM.
'I rushed out of the tent onto the street; people were standing under the monument singing the national anthem... It was so humiliating—me, a grown woman—and I couldn't stop it.' Liubomyra Kepler

The death of Liubomyra Kepler is a loss not only for her family and friends but also for a society that remembers her contributions to the fight for human rights and dignity during the Revolution of Dignity. Her volunteer work and active stance in dangerous conditions are seen as a model of civic courage. Holding the farewell on Maidan—the very site where she dedicated so much effort—underscores her significance in Ukraine's history.
