Protests in Iran: at least 41 dead and thousands detained

Масові виступи в Ірані призвели до загибелі принаймні 41 особи та арешту тисяч демонстрантів.

Protests in Iran

Protests in Iran continue, covering major cities and rural areas, resulting in at least 41 fatalities. According to sources, more than 2270 demonstrators have been detained during anti-government actions that began in late December. Protesters have called for more actions at 8:00 PM local time on January 8 and 9.

Situation and Violence

The protests are accompanied by violence. It is known that a police colonel was killed in the suburbs of Tehran. In the Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, two law enforcement officers died, and another 30 were injured during clashes. In Khorasan Razavi province, five people died due to an attack on a police station. Additionally, protesters have taken control of the city of Abdanan in Ilam province.

The situation in the country remains tense, and protesters are actively voicing their demands, shouting slogans such as:

  • Death to the dictator!
  • Death to the Islamic Republic!

Notable political figures, such as Reza Pahlavi, have noted that the world and U.S. President Donald Trump are closely watching the actions of the Iranian regime. Trump also stated:

"If Tehran uses weapons against the protesters, I am ready to come to their aid." - Donald Trump

The standoff in Iran reflects deep-seated social and political issues that have accumulated over many years. The high level of violence during protests indicates that the situation may become even more tense if the government continues to use harsh methods to suppress dissent. Observations from the international community, particularly the U.S., underscore the importance of global attention to the events in Iran and the potential impact on the country's political course.
