62 Days in a Basement Under Drones: The Story of Two Ukrainian Soldiers' Rescue

В умовах війни: два українські захисники пережили 62 дні у підвалі, рятуючи одне одного від небезпек.

Two Ukrainian soldiers from the 31st Brigade of the Armed Forces managed to survive in a tiny basement in eastern Ukraine for 62 days, under an ongoing threat from Russian drones. Their journey to safety lasted three days on foot, and now they plan to return to the front. 'What choice do we have?' says Bohdan, highlighting the determination of Ukrainian troops to defend their land despite exhaustion and threats. This is reported by The Guardian.

After a shootout with three Russian soldiers, they decided to hide in the basement and received food and water via drone, as any detection could lead to immediate death.

The danger came suddenly for Ivan and Bohdan when the Russians were found near their hiding spot and inadvertently revealed their position. The Ukrainian fighters opened fire, killing two enemy soldiers, but the surviving Russian managed to call in drone strikes on their position, resulting in the destruction of the Ukrainian drone.

During their isolation in the basement, they were cut off from their comrades and families, and their only hope was to remain undetected. It was only after three days that they managed to surface in the rain and fog to avoid detection by Russian drones.

Despite fatigue and psychological pressure, Bohdan and Ivan are preparing to return to the front. They understand that resoluteness and support from allies are necessary for sustainable peace in Ukraine, and they are not ready to give up their land or surrender at any cost.

Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold positions at the front, risking their lives and feeling a lack of reserves and rotations in the army. They believe that only weapons, support from allies, and determination will help realize the dream of peace on Ukrainian soil.
