Points of Resilience Will Receive Energy-Independent Internet: xPON or Starlink

Енергетично незалежний інтернет: нові технології для підвищення стійкості.

Update on 'Points of Resilience' Requirements

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has announced an update on the requirements for the operation of 'Points of Resilience'. From now on, these points must be provided with energy-independent internet that will function even during power outages. To achieve this goal, it is planned to use xPON fiber optic connection technology or Starlink satellite internet.

Internet Provision Technologies

The xPON fiber optic connection can operate without electricity for up to three days, ensuring continuous internet access in emergency situations. Starlink satellite internet, on the other hand, will be available in areas where cable infrastructure is absent, expanding connectivity options.

Each 'Point of Resilience' will be assigned an email address to allow for monitoring of the connection. Authorities also plan to learn about the lack of internet in these points through user complaints on social media. Thus, the new requirements will contribute to enhancing the reliability of communication in critical situations, which is an important step in ensuring the safety of citizens.

The update of the requirements for 'Points of Resilience' reflects the aspiration of the Ukrainian authorities to ensure stable communication in difficult conditions, which is of great importance in the context of current security challenges.

The implementation of energy-independent internet will facilitate rapid response to emergencies and allow citizens to receive important information in real time. This, in turn, will increase the level of trust in state institutions and their readiness to respond to crises.
