Putin Receives Invitation to Gaza Peace Council
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited by the United States to join a Gaza Peace Council, an initiative launched by Donald Trump. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Moscow is currently examining the details of this proposal. Peskov added that Russia anticipates further contact with the American side to clarify all aspects of the invitation.
Structure of the Proposed Peace Council
The Peace Council being formed by Trump requires a one-billion-dollar contribution for permanent membership. The U.S. President would serve as the Council's first chair, with decisions made by a majority vote where each member state holds a single vote. Separately, the Trump administration is also considering the creation of a similar Peace Council for Ukraine.
The invitation for Putin to join the Gaza Peace Council represents a U.S. attempt to draw Russia into a more active role in international peacekeeping efforts. This move could signal a desire to mend diplomatic relations, which have been severely strained in recent years. Russia's potential involvement in such initiatives could significantly influence conflict dynamics in the region and set precedents for approaches to other crises, including the war in Ukraine.
