Cancellation of the actions of foreign courts by Russia

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree that cancels the actions of foreign courts in criminal cases without the participation of the Russian Federation. According to the new document, the rulings of international judicial bodies will also not be executed if their jurisdiction is not based on international treaties or UN Security Council resolutions.

The head of the Board of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, Vladimir Gruzdev, emphasized that this law will apply to the verdicts of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Future Special Tribunals regarding Russia's crime of aggression against Ukraine will also fall under these restrictions. This decision may affect the international legal situation, as Russia announces its intention to ignore the decisions of international courts.

Impact on international relations

For 25 years, Vladimir Putin has built a system in which the richest people in the country have become dependent on the Kremlin. In this context, it is worth noting that during a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, Putin stated that Ukraine must surrender Donbas to end the war. The conversation took place at the initiative of the American side and lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes. Ushakov characterized this conversation as having a 'friendly, amicable, and businesslike character,' while Donald Trump called it 'good and very productive.'

The cancellation of the actions of foreign courts by Russia underscores its intention to ignore international legal norms, which may lead to further escalation of tensions in relations with other states. This decision may also complicate the situation for Ukraine, as the Special Tribunal regarding the crime of aggression may not be recognized by Russia, jeopardizing the possibility of holding accountable those responsible for the conflict. In the context of the recent conversation between the leaders of the U.S. and Russia, the issue of Ukraine's territorial integrity remains one of the key points in diplomatic negotiations.
