Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), is currently holding meetings in Florida with representatives from the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump. These discussions follow recent high-level contact between the two nations. On March 9, a phone call took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump, marking their first conversation in over two months.
This communication also represents the first contact since the commencement of U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran. During their call, the leaders addressed critical issues, including the ongoing war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East.
Donald Trump noted that 'many people from both sides joined the call. We talked about Ukraine, which is fighting an endless battle. There is tremendous hatred between Putin and Zelenskyy. They cannot agree, but overall the conversation on this topic was positive.'
In a separate development, a phone conversation also occurred between Putin's advisor Yuri Ushakov, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Witkoff. These contacts point to a noticeable intensification of dialogue between the two countries against a backdrop of complex international circumstances.
