Vladimir Putin’s Meeting on the Fuel Crisis
Vladimir Putin convened a meeting focused on the fuel shortage affecting the Russian Federation. During the session, he acknowledged the existing difficulties and directed that fuel supplies be secured for the temporarily occupied Crimea. The president also criticized officials for delaying decisions, stressing that state agencies, security forces, and law enforcement must receive adequate fuel. He attributed the supply problems to Ukraine’s actions, which he claimed are aimed at damaging Russia’s economy.

Putin instructed major oil companies to increase fuel deliveries to independent gas stations. He also tasked Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak with providing regular updates to him and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on the fuel market situation. The president stated:
“Decisions need to be made faster, rather than just expressing a willingness to consider them.”
In response to the crisis, the Russian government imposed a ban on diesel exports and postponed maintenance work at several oil refineries. Additionally, it announced the start of fuel imports. These steps followed a series of Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s oil refining and energy infrastructure. Putin described the fuel difficulties as “temporary” and linked them to the adversary’s attempt to disrupt the holiday season, adding that “Russia’s energy sector has a large margin of safety.”
