Zelensky's Proposal

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been briefed on an open letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which includes a request for a face-to-face meeting. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that there are currently no official communication channels between Russia and Ukraine. The letter from Zelensky was made public by the Office of the President of Ukraine on June 4.

Letter Details and Reactions

In his letter, Zelensky proposed holding a personal meeting on the territory of a third country. He also expressed Ukraine's willingness to declare a ceasefire for the duration of the talks. Additionally, the Ukrainian side put forward a proposal for a prisoner exchange based on an 'all-for-all' formula.

U.S. President Donald Trump gave a positive assessment of the possibility of discussing such a meeting. However, the Kremlin has not yet indicated whether Putin is ready to meet with Zelensky. As Dmitry Peskov noted,

“Russia has no official channels of communication with Ukraine.”

As a result, the further course of events remains uncertain until both sides are able to establish dialogue.

Zelensky's proposal for a personal meeting and his readiness to declare a ceasefire signal a potential desire for peace negotiations, despite the lack of official communication channels between the two countries. This could represent a significant step toward reducing tensions and resuming dialogue, provided both parties can find common ground. At the same time, the Kremlin's response to this initiative leaves many questions about possible next steps in Ukraine-Russia relations.

As the situation develops, the Kremlin has suggested Moscow as a potential location for the proposed meeting between Putin and Zelensky. This development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing discussions and may influence the prospects for dialogue.
