UN Security Council Session
At Ukraine's request, the UN Security Council will hold a session on April 20 to address recent Russian strikes. This meeting was initiated by Ukraine in response to Russian air attacks carried out on April 14. The Ukrainian request received backing from several member states, including:

The Situation in Ukraine
Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Andrii Melnyk, submitted the formal request on April 14. In his communication, he detailed that over the preceding two weeks, Russia had launched more than 3,600 attack drones, nearly 1,350 guided aerial bombs, and over 40 missiles. These assaults resulted in the deaths of at least 70 civilians.

Assistant Secretary-General Mohamed Khaled Khiari and Deputy Secretary-General Joyce Msuya are slated to brief the Council. During the session, Russia's representative, Vasily Nebenzya, is expected to highlight the increase in European Union defense spending. He noted that from February 2022 to 2025, EU member states have boosted their defense expenditures by almost 60%, reaching 381 billion euros in 2025.
