Emergency meeting of the UN Security Council

The UN Security Council is convening an emergency meeting in response to recent attacks by Russia against Ukraine. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha reported that the meeting will take place on January 12 at 10:00 PM Kyiv time. The main topic of discussion will be Russia's violation of the UN Charter, particularly related to the use of medium-range ballistic missiles during attacks on Ukrainian territory.

Sybiha noted that this meeting became possible after Ukraine's urgent request. He also urged Security Council members to demonstrate unity in the effort to stop Russia's aggression. Thus, the security situation in the region remains the focus of the international community.

International reaction to Russia's aggression

This UN Security Council meeting is an important step in the international response to Russia's continued aggressive actions in Ukraine. Involving world leaders in the discussion of violations of international law can increase diplomatic pressure on Moscow and highlight the seriousness of the situation. Amidst the escalation of the conflict, such a UN response can be key in shaping the further actions of the international community.
