UN Security Council Condemns Iranian Attacks in 13-0 Vote

Рада Безпеки ООН засудила агресію Ірану одноголосно, підтримавши рішення 13-0.

UN Security Council Resolution

The UN Security Council has passed a resolution condemning Iran's attacks on Gulf states and Jordan, demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities. The vote saw 13 of the Council's 15 members in favor, while China and the Russian Federation abstained. The resolution was initiated by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and backed by 135 other UN member states. This vote underscores the significant international pressure on Tehran regarding its regional military activities.

Regional Situation

The resolution expresses regret over attacks targeting critical infrastructure, including ports and energy facilities in the Gulf region. Iran's UN Ambassador, Amir-Saeid Iravani, commented on the adoption, stating,

"This is a very sad day for the Security Council and the international community."
He further added that since the start of the US and Israeli operation on February 28, over 1,348 civilians have been killed and more than 17,000 injured.

US President Donald Trump declared that the US had won the war with Iran but noted that American forces would continue the operation to complete it. According to estimates presented in a closed-door briefing for senators, the first six days of the US operation against Iran cost at least $11.3 billion.

The adoption of this resolution highlights the severity of the regional crisis and widespread international concern over tensions fueled by Iran's actions. While the broad support signals global solidarity in condemning aggression, the abstentions by China and Russia may reflect their support for Iran or a desire to avoid direct confrontation on this issue. The protracted conflict and its economic repercussions are likely to have lasting implications for international relations and security.
