Rocket into Lake Telbin: what is known about the consequences of the strike and the examination of the water body

On December 27, 2023, a Russian rocket hit Lake Telbin in Berezniaky during a massive shelling of Kyiv. As a result of the attack, one person was killed and over thirty were injured, including children. In addition to the human losses, the shelling caused damage to the power supply system, resulting in approximately 4,000 residential buildings being left without heating. A reduced water pressure was also recorded on both the right and left banks of the city.

Examination of the water body and consequences

After the incident, divers began examining the water body for hazardous materials. This examination is important as the rocket may have left dangerous substances, including rocket fuel and explosives, which can be toxic to the environment. However, so far, no mass fish mortality has been recorded in the water body.

For additional information or to report hazardous materials, citizens can contact the dispatcher of the Specialized Diving Service at (044) 517-64-11. The examination of the lake and the elimination of the consequences of the shelling are ongoing.

This incident highlights the alarming situation in Ukraine, where shelling continues to threaten the safety of the civilian population. The importance of examining the water body for hazardous materials not only ensures the safety of local residents but also aims to prevent ecological disasters that may arise from pollution.

The subsequent actions of the authorities regarding the elimination of the consequences of the attack may affect the restoration of infrastructure and the provision of normal living conditions for residents of affected areas.
