Shrapnel-Laden Rocket Strikes Kyiv: 12 Wounded, Including Children

Ракета з осколками вдарила по Києву: постраждало 12 осіб, серед них діти.

Missile Attack on Kyiv

During the night of July 11, Russian forces launched a missile strike on Kyiv's Darnytskyi district. The warhead, packed with shrapnel, landed on a roadway, causing extensive damage. The attack left 12 people injured, among them two children aged 10 and 11. Residential buildings suffered broken windows and doors, while parked cars and a pharmacy were also damaged. Additionally, the strike ignited an electrical panel controlling traffic lights; the fire was brought under control by morning.

Oleksandr Kovtunov, head of the Darnytskyi district administration, stated: 'Fortunately, the street was empty at that hour, and no one was near the windows! Otherwise, there would have been casualties.'

He added: 'This allowed us to avoid far more severe consequences. However, residential buildings were hit—windows and doors were blown out.'

Shelter Construction in Kyiv

Meanwhile, in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital, construction of a radiation shelter at a lyceum has been completed. Covering 1,300 square meters, the facility can accommodate up to 600 people. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported: 'Twelve people were injured in the capital as a result of the enemy attack. Among the wounded are two children, aged 10 and 11.'

This assault is part of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which continues to inflict harm on civilians and urban infrastructure. While missile strikes cause casualties and destruction, local authorities are taking steps to protect the population, including building shelters. This underscores the importance of preparedness in the face of persistent threats.

The recent attack on Kyiv is not an isolated incident, as evidenced by another nighttime assault that resulted in significant casualties. In a similar event, 11 lives were lost and over 30 individuals injured. These ongoing strikes highlight the persistent threat to civilians and the urgent need for protective measures in urban areas.
