Missile Strike on Odesa and Its Devastating Impact
On September 12, 2026, Russian forces launched a missile attack on the city of Odesa, severely damaging a high-rise residential building. The number of injured individuals has risen to 23, among them a five-month-old baby. In addition to Odesa, missile strikes also targeted the cities of Zaporizhzhia and Kryvyi Rih.
According to Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa Military Administration, initial reports indicated three wounded. By 7:48 a.m., the count increased to 12 casualties within the damaged building. After 8:20 a.m., the total injured reached 16, including the infant. By around 10:00 a.m., the number of injured climbed to 23, with seven people and the child hospitalized. The fire affected apartments from the 21st to the 23rd floors of the 25-story building. Rescue teams saved seven people, including two children, some trapped in an elevator.
Attacks Extend to Chornomorsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih
In Chornomorsk, one residential building was destroyed and three others damaged. Additionally, a gas pipeline was hit, causing a fire in a nearby home. Five people were injured in Chornomorsk, including four children. A hotel housing a rehabilitation center and several parked vehicles also suffered damage.
The Russian military strikes also hit Zaporizhzhia and Kryvyi Rih. In Zaporizhzhia, two fatalities were confirmed, with damage to private homes and one residential building destroyed; four others sustained injuries. Kryvyi Rih experienced one death and two injuries from ballistic missile attacks. Ukraine’s Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted most of the hostile aerial threats.
More than 80 rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine were involved in response efforts. “The enemy struck the city, damaging a multi-story residential building. Initially, three injured were reported,” stated Serhiy Lysak.
These assaults occur amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which continues to inflict severe human and material losses. The affected regions face a critical situation as many residents lose their homes and urgently require assistance. Local authorities and emergency services remain actively engaged in relief operations and support for the wounded.
