Referendum on Peace with Russia: Will the Enemy Adhere to Agreements

Myroslav Marynovych, Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, public figure, philosopher, and dissident, expressed his opinion on the idea of holding a referendum in Ukraine regarding a peace agreement with Russia. He noted that there are serious doubts about the Russian side adhering to the concluded agreements.

Marynovych emphasized that the question of peace should be resolved by the people. However, he expressed concern about the possibility of conducting a normal referendum under current conditions in Ukraine.

“I doubt whether it is possible to conduct a normal referendum under our current circumstances, but I consider the idea of holding it to be correct,”
- he noted in an interview with 'Glavkom'.

Moreover, Marynovych stressed the lack of faith that Russia would adhere to any agreements, even if they are signed.

“So far, I do not believe it. Just as I do not believe that Russia will adhere to those agreements,”
- he said. According to Marynovych, “there will always be reasons” for violating agreements.

Skepticism and People's Involvement

Thus, Myroslav Marynovych's opinion reflects skepticism regarding the possibilities of achieving peace through an agreement with Russia, as well as emphasizing the importance of people's involvement in making crucial decisions in this complex situation.

The expressed thoughts of Marynovych reflect the general mood in society, where the question of peace with Russia remains extremely sensitive. Many Ukrainians, considering the historical context and repeated violations of agreements by Russia, question the reality of achieving stable peace. This referendum could become an important step in determining the country's future, however, its conduct requires careful preparation and objective assessment of the circumstances.
