The Minister of Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmikova reported that branches of the National Memorial Military Cemetery (NMMC) in the regions may not be launched until 2027. She pointed out that discussions with the Ministry of Finance are ongoing to make the necessary legislative changes. It is expected that the branches will be standardized and will have specific burial rules similar to those in place at the NMMC.
'The most important thing in such military burials is who will take care of this grave for years and years. In this sense, the state assumes these obligations. In fact, there will be a certain regulatory framework for military cemeteries and sectors of military burials... We have one and a half million veterans, and each of them has the right to be buried in a military memorial cemetery.'
Kalmikova also emphasized that the branches of the NMMC will be independent cemeteries, which will not be connected to local military burials. It is planned that they will provide the opportunity to choose a burial site at the military memorial cemetery for each veteran.
