Zaporizhzhia NPP on the brink of disaster: only one power line left

Запорізька АЕС: критична ситуація із залишковими енергетичними зв'язками

At this moment, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is receiving electricity through one of the two external power transmission lines. The other line was disconnected due to military actions, as reported by Reuters.

Despite this, the radiation level at the station remains adequate, and repair works to restore the second power transmission line are planned in the near future. In the event of losing both power transmission lines, backup diesel generators will be activated at the Zaporizhzhia NPP to prevent a nuclear disaster.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has dismissed the idea of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant coming under Russian control. The question of control over the future of the station remains open, as the occupied territory requires special status to prevent the threat of a nuclear incident - said the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi.

In the event of losing both power transmission lines, the nuclear power plant will be forced to use backup diesel generators to avoid a nuclear disaster. At the same time, the Ukrainian president emphasized that he would not allow Russian control over the ZNPP, as this could pose a serious threat to nuclear safety. The station is currently operating on one power transmission line, and repairs on the second line are scheduled for the near future.
