Russian occupiers continue to harm the natural environment in Ukraine. The Kinburn Spit and the Askania-Nova nature reserve have suffered from military actions, leading to serious ecological problems. Observers report oil spills along the coast and the death of animals, including thousands of dolphins. There is no doubt that the intervention of the Russian army has led to catastrophic consequences for nature in this area.
“Ecologists have already raised the alarm and reached out to me, asking to draw attention to this issue, as it unfortunately does not receive much media coverage,” emphasized the spokesperson of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk.
Unfortunately, the catastrophic consequences are also spreading to other areas. The explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station has temporarily transformed the Kinburn Spit into an island, resulting in the flooding of the shores of the Dnieper and further exacerbating the ecological situation in this area.
