“Since our last conversation, we have finalized the procedures for launching new joint production. On September 9, land was allocated in a safe region of Ukraine, where a new factory for the production of Rheinmetall shells for the needs of the Defense Forces will be built,” Shmyhal said.
Development of Cooperation
Moreover, the head of the Ukrainian defense ministry emphasized important projects, such as the repair and production of armored vehicles. He stressed that the new developments from Rheinmetall could significantly enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities.
“With Mr. Papperger, we also discussed the development of air defense, specifically the joint improvement of solutions to counter enemy drones,” Shmyhal added.
It should be noted that Rheinmetall is preparing to produce 155 mm caliber artillery shells in Ukraine. The new factory is expected to be operational by 2026, but is currently facing some difficulties in project implementation.
The meeting between the Ukrainian Defense Minister and the head of Rheinmetall AG suggests that cooperation between the countries in the field of armaments production continues to gain momentum, which could significantly enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities in the future.
