Rare Solar Halo in Lviv on Christmas: How and Why It Formed

Над Львовом під час Різдва з'явився унікальний сонячний гало: причини та особливості цього явища.

Solar Halo in Lviv

On December 25, a rare natural phenomenon was observed in Lviv - a solar halo. This phenomenon occurs due to the refraction and reflection of sunlight in ice crystals in the atmosphere. The solar halo is bright and clearly visible, and in Ukraine, it can be observed 70-120 times a year, with 10-20 occurrences appearing in the form of bright circles.

On Christmas in Lviv, mournful carols were sung for Ukrainian soldiers. The footage and details of the event were shared by the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, highlighting the significance of this day for the city's residents. Observing natural phenomena such as the solar halo adds a special color to festive days.

Symbolism of the Holiday

The solar halo, as a rare natural phenomenon, attracts attention not only for its beauty but also because it occurs against the backdrop of significant events like Christmas. At the same time, the carols sung in honor of Ukrainian soldiers emphasize the patriotic spirit and unity of the community in difficult times. These two aspects of the holiday form a deeper context, reminding us of the importance of traditions and togetherness in challenging times for the country.
