On Saturday, July 19, 2025, memorial events will take place in Lviv in honor of the renowned linguist, doctor, professor, and public figure Iryna Faryon. This day marks exactly one year since her tragic death. The events will include the presentation of an artistic work planned to be installed at the site of the murder. This was reported by 'Gromadske' citing the Lviv City Council.
The artistic concept of the memorial was developed for free by former students of Iryna Faryon - a team led by Andriy Lesiuk. They are the authors of the Memorial to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred in Lviv and the future museum of Roman Shukhevych in Bilohorodka. The concept was developed in collaboration with Iryna's daughter, Sofia Osoba. The presentation will take place today, July 19, in the yard of the house on Masaryk Street where Iryna Faryon lived.
Events Schedule for the Day of Remembrance
- 09:00 - memorial service at the Garrison Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
- 10:30 - memorial requiem at Lychakiv Cemetery, near Iryna Faryon’s grave.
- 19:22 - evening of remembrance in the yard of the house on Masaryk Street, where the tragedy occurred. It was at this hour a year ago that the fatal shot was fired. During the event, a vision for the improvement of the location and the artistic concept of commemorating the memory will be presented.
Iryna Faryon was fatally wounded on July 19, 2024, near her home on Masaryk Street in Lviv. Despite the efforts of doctors, that same evening, at 23:20, she died in the hospital. On July 25, law enforcement detained a suspect in the murder - 19-year-old resident of Dnipro, Vyacheslav Zinchenko. The trial is ongoing.
The physical extermination of the Ukrainian patriot Iryna Faryon was fully supported by Russia, which gladly backed those who armed themselves. However, anyone could have pulled the trigger, even a young man with distorted or absent moral principles.
