Ukraine's New Car Market Sees 58% Import Plunge, Yet Toyota RAV4 Tops Sales

Незважаючи на значне зменшення імпортних продажів, Toyota RAV4 продовжує лідирувати серед автомобілів в Україні.

Key Trends in Ukraine's New Passenger Car Market

Ukraine's new passenger car market presented a mixed picture in January 2026. A total of 4,789 new passenger cars were registered, marking an 11.6% increase compared to January 2025. However, this growth comes against a backdrop of a sharp 57.8% drop in vehicle imports from the previous month of December 2025, signaling significant market shifts. This volatility reflects the broader economic challenges facing the country's automotive sector.

Domestic Ukrainian assembly contributed 119 new vehicles to the total. The Toyota RAV4 emerged as the best-selling model with 313 registered units, narrowly beating the Renault Duster, which recorded 312 units. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado secured third place. At the premium end of the market, only one Bentley and one Maserati were registered, while Porsche was represented by 40 units.

Leading Brands and Models in the New Car Market

The top-performing brands in Ukraine's new car market were:

  • Toyota
  • BYD
  • Renault
  • Skoda

The Skoda Karoq, with 59 units produced at the Eurocar plant, led the domestic assembly segment. New-generation models like the BYD Leopard 3, BYD Sea Lion 06, and Volkswagen ID. Unyx also featured among the top ten sellers, indicating consumer interest in newer technologies.

Separate data on the insurance market provides context for vehicle demand: from January to December 2025, insurance companies settled 150,982 claims under compulsory motor third-party liability insurance, with total payouts exceeding 6.8 billion hryvnias. This highlights ongoing market activity and the need for vehicle replacement, despite the import downturn.

The 57.8% month-on-month collapse in new car imports likely points to challenges importers are facing, such as adjustments to customs procedures or currency exchange rate fluctuations.

Conversely, the overall rise in new car registrations suggests underlying demand remains stable, particularly for locally assembled models. This resilience could be a positive signal for manufacturers operating within the domestic market.
