According to Deputy Minister of Social Policy Daria Marchak, the poverty level in Ukraine is too high and significantly exceeds that of other countries. More than 8.8 million Ukrainians live below the poverty line. She emphasized that this is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach.
«This issue is very complex, it is multifaceted, but it is obvious that the level of poverty in our country is such that it is difficult to accept. And, obviously, it significantly exceeds the indicators in other countries that we would like to emulate,» noted the official.
To combat this problem, the ministry plans to revise the assistance program for the underprivileged, as the current program does not adequately cover the number of families affected by this complex and widespread issue. According to Daria Marchak, the protection system should help people escape poverty forever by providing them with opportunities for retraining, employment, and possibly relocating to municipalities with better job opportunities.
«We must ensure that the payment is provided along with the service. We must state that money is provided together with a set of actions that the state and the individual must take to avoid returning to this state of poverty. ... poverty. And we are talking about what this can mean in terms of helping a person return to the labor market. Retraining programs, employment, and possibly relocating to another community where there is a better employer where you can better realize your skills,» explained Daria Marchak.
It is positive that the government recognizes the seriousness of the poverty situation in Ukraine. The ministry plans to take measures to improve assistance programs for the underprivileged so that people have access to retraining, employment, and the opportunity to change their residence to improve their lives.
