The Christmas celebrations in the Vatican in 2023 are taking place according to the traditional scenario. Official festive events began on December 15, and the pre-Christmas Advent period started as early as November 30. The main decoration of St. Peter's Square is a 27-meter tall tree weighing about eight tons, which arrived from the Ultental valley in South Tyrol. The tradition of erecting a tree in this square started in 1982, and for the past five years, trees for the Vatican have exclusively come from Italy.
In addition to the tree, a nativity scene delivered from the province of Salerno has also been installed in St. Peter's Square.
