Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 10. The Ukrainian side welcomes the agreements reached with Armenia, which should contribute to long-term peace in the South Caucasus. This success was made possible thanks to the support of U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, both leaders support the idea of respecting international law and not allowing double standards in matters of territorial integrity. Zelensky expressed gratitude to his Azerbaijani counterpart for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty.

During the conversation, diplomatic efforts to achieve a fair peace were discussed. Zelensky spoke about his contacts with international partners aimed at supporting diplomacy and the genuine end of the war. The leaders also discussed cooperation with the U.S., European countries, and key principles for approaching peace.

Special attention was paid to energy cooperation.

The press service of the President of Azerbaijan noted that last month a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on developing trade and economic ties between the two countries was held in Baku. The leaders also condemned the Russian airstrikes on energy facilities of Ukrainian companies, considering it an attempt by the Russian Federation to undermine Ukraine's energy independence and that of other European countries. Nevertheless, the parties are confident that such actions by Russia will not halt Azerbaijani-Ukrainian cooperation in the energy sector and agreed to expand joint opportunities in this direction.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev discussed important issues of interstate relations, including cooperation in the energy sector and efforts to ensure peace in the South Caucasus. This meeting was another step towards strengthening friendship and cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
