Attack on civilian vessels in the Black Sea

The Russian army attacked two civilian vessels in the Black Sea, resulting in injuries to people. On January 9, Russian invaders launched an attack on civilian shipping in the Ukrainian maritime corridor, damaging two vessels flying foreign flags - Panama and San Marino.

This attack continues the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation, which had already attacked two ports in Odesa region. As a result of those attacks, the following were damaged:

  • port facilities;
  • administrative buildings;
  • containers with oil.

According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, there are injured among the crews of the attacked vessels, and all of them are receiving necessary medical assistance.

Danger to civilian shipping

This event highlights the increasing danger to civilian shipping in the Black Sea, which has arisen as a result of Russia's military actions. Attacks on civilian vessels can have serious consequences for international trade and security in the region, causing concern among shipowners and states whose vessels have been attacked.
