Strikes Target Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa Regions
In February 2024, Russian military forces launched attacks on Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions, resulting in casualties and damage to infrastructure. On the evening of February 22, a strike hit a sanatorium in the Pavlohrad district of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, injuring one man. These assaults are part of a broader pattern of attacks on Ukrainian territory far from the front lines.
In the early hours of February 23, hostile forces carried out an airstrike on the Pokrovsk community in the Synelnykove district. The resulting blast wave damaged a fire and rescue unit building, shattering windows and damaging the ceiling. An outbuilding on private property caught fire, and a fire also broke out in an apartment of a multi-story building following a direct hit. Fourteen rescue workers and four pieces of equipment were deployed to deal with the aftermath.
Odesa Region Targeted in Drone Assault
Odesa Oblast also came under attack in the early hours of February 23, when Russian forces deployed strike drones. The assault targeted industrial, energy, and civilian infrastructure. This attack killed two people and injured at least three others.
Overall, the Russian terrorist army conducted more than 20 attacks on three districts of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast using drones, artillery, and Grad multiple launch rocket systems, leading to numerous injuries among local residents.
These events highlight the ongoing escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and underscore the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure in targeted regions. Attacks on non-military objects pose a serious threat to civilian lives and can have long-term negative consequences for the country's economy. The situation in the Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions demonstrates the urgent need to strengthen civil defense and emergency response systems.
