New attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine
The Russian Federation launched a new attack on Ukraine, focusing on energy infrastructure. As a result of the attacks, several hundred thousand families were left without electricity. The Ukrainian air defense destroyed a significant number of enemy missiles and drones.
Details of the attack
The attack took place on January 13, when Russia fired:
- 18 ballistic missiles 'Iskander-M'
- 7 missiles 'Iskander-K'
- 293 strike drones of the Shahed type and 'Gerbera'
In response to these attacks, Ukrainian air defense managed to shoot down 247 targets, including:
- 2 ballistic missiles 'Iskander-M'
- 5 cruise missiles 'Iskander-K'
- 240 UAVs
Hits of ballistic and anti-aircraft missiles have been recorded, as well as 48 strike UAVs at 24 locations.
As a result of the attack on the Kharkiv innovation terminal of 'Nova Poshta', the cargo terminal was almost completely destroyed. In Odesa, as a result of a drone attack, residential buildings and social facilities were damaged. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted:
“Every such strike by the Russian Federation is a reminder to the world that we must not cease our support for Ukraine” – Volodymyr Zelensky
He also emphasized that 'Russia must understand that the cold will not help win the war.'
This attack is part of a prolonged conflict between Ukraine and Russia that has been ongoing since 2014. Strikes on energy infrastructure aim not only to destroy physical objects but also to weaken the morale of the Ukrainian population. Increasing support from the international community remains critically important for Ukraine in the face of ongoing aggression and such attacks that threaten the lives of thousands of people.
