Energy Infrastructure Under Attack
Russian forces have launched a new assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, resulting in widespread power outages for consumers across multiple regions. This attack is part of a sustained campaign targeting the country's critical civilian facilities. As of this morning, electricity has been cut off in the following areas:
- Sumy Oblast
- Donetsk Oblast
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
- Kherson Oblast
- Zaporizhzhia Oblast
The national power grid is under severe strain, leading to scheduled power limitations for industry and rolling hourly blackouts for all consumers across Ukraine. Emergency power cuts have also been implemented in some regions.
Power Consumption Data
Electricity consumption at 9:30 AM on February 4 was 5.2% higher than at the same time the previous day. This increase is attributed to fewer consumers being without power compared to the massive missile and drone attack the day before, as well as a reduced scale of forced power restrictions in certain regions.
In response to the crisis, the government has announced support programs for businesses and residential buildings. Applications for the 'SvitloDim' (LightHome) support program for multi-apartment buildings opened on January 30. The energy support package for entrepreneurs includes:
- Payments of up to 15,000 hryvnias for individual entrepreneurs
- Zero-interest loans for energy equipment
Energy workers continue efforts to repair the enemy-damaged equipment.
“Emergency repair work is already underway wherever security conditions permit. Energy sector workers are doing everything possible to restore the enemy-damaged equipment to operation as quickly as possible,” reported representatives of Ukrenergo.
